On September 22, 2026, four J.W. Reed Christian Academy high schoolers collaborated with fourth-grade students at DMPS River Woods Elementary School for a morning of poetry, creativity, and encouragement.
The JWRCA students shared original poems with the elementary students and then assisted them with mind maps and poetry-planning organizers. Together, they explored personal sources of inspiration and began developing ideas for the students' own poems.
This service opportunity allowed our students to model creativity, confidence, and positive mentorship while encouraging younger students to find and express their individual voices.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Sarah Loftus, who coordinated the visit, and to the River Woods teachers and staff for welcoming our students. We also thank Mr. Vance Hawthorne, the JWRCA teacher who accompanied and supported the students during the activity.
